These mountain lions were a full grown hunting pair and had snuck up on us about 9:30 at night, as our backs were to them.  Only by luck did I get up to get my water bottle and saw a glint of light behind us.... when I shone my headlamp at the glint I was stunned by this sight...yes this is a doctored photo since we weren't in the mood to take pics at the time.  But this is how close they were.  Yikes
